After Market Tail Light Assemblies by Omix-Ada & Push Pull Switch info

To learn more history about BO lights and how they worked see... http://wwii.memorieshop.com/Hutchins/Blackout-lights.html

I got the MB without any tail light assemblies.

The Blackout tail light assemblies, I ordered from www.4wd.com and they are a little different than the OEM assemblies.

Part # OAI12403.51             Passenger side $89.99

Part # OAI12403.52              Driver side $89.99

Looked great when received but when trying to put the bulbs & wire plugs in, I found that the sockets were too tight. I reamed the bulb sockets out a little right at the base until the bulbs would push in and twist into the locked position easily. I used a rotary air tool to do this a little at a time until the bulbs fit properly.

Even though the assemblies are different than stock, I like the final outcome because they now take standard bulbs that can be replaced easily from any Napa dealer.

Push Pull MB switch.

What lights are working depend on what position your switch is in.

Position #1 = BLACKOUT LIGHTS (for use during blackout conditions) (pulled out 1 stop on push/pull switch.) This powers the two front blackout indicator lamps and the two rear blackout indicator lamps “bottom lights on both rear lights” The rear blackout stop light is activated “top lamp on the rear passenger's side” it will illuminate when you step on the brake pedal. The blackout driving lamp (on the front driver's side fender) is also activated and will light if you pull out the blackout lamp switch on the dashboard.

Note: In blackout mode, the dashboard illuminating lamps cannot be turned on.

Position #2 = SERVICE LIGHTS (for regular night driving (not blackout conditions) pulled out 2 stops on push/pull switch) This powers the two front regular headlamps and the regular stop lamp (the big red one on the rear - driver's side) This becomes a tail light all the time and step on the brake pedal to illuminate it brighter. The two gauge lamps are also activated and will turn on if you pull the dashboard switch.

Position #3 = DAY DRIVING (pulled out fully 3 stops on push/pull switch) This only activates your regular rear stop lamp (the big red one on the rear - driver's side) It is off until you step on the brake pedal and the stop light turns on.

Tail Light Brackets

My Jeep was missing the Tail Light Brackets. After many hours of research I decided that the Horizontal brackets were right for my DOD. (March 25, 1943) Some research stated that either could be used with my DOD. To be sure... I used the horizontal brackets. I finally found someone making them just before I gave up and fabricated them myself. Midwest Military is making them. http://www.midwestmilitary.net/

To this day I have not seen a MB with vertical brackets.

This is the horizontal                        This is the vertical
