N7JTA / N7LXC "Half Ton Radio Club"

"HTRC" Cross State Link System

This is a cross band link system connecting Eastern Washington to Western Washington. The path for this system is from the Shoreline area in north Seattle to the Skymeadows area near Cle Elum on the 70 CM band. It can be accessed from 145.570 on the west side and 146.540 on the east side. The path through the Cascades is on the 440 band and roughly follows the I90 corridor. This system is PL protected and 91.5 is the tone used.

The system has been in operation for about 25 years.

West of the mountains 145.570 "PL 91.5"..... East of the mountains 146.540 "PL 91.5"

440 Ports into the system listed below... As of 2010

445.425 T-91.5 Is now temp off the air in the Bothell area by N7NEW. "Please use repeater"

442.200 + offset Repeater with 103.5 PL tone with 145.570 as the remote base always on.

445.500 T-91.5 Is now running in the Granite Falls area by N7JTA

445.500 T-91.5 Is/was running in Tri Cities... (not sure about this...) Seem to be missing a radio there.

445.425 T-91.5 Is now up and running again in the Sky Meadows area.

"In the works for the Link System"

Bob, WA7HTJ & Mike N7NEW are working on some equipment additions to the system.

The plan is to have a 440 repeater here on the west side linked into 145.570

The new repeater will be on 442.200 + offset with 103.5 PL tone with 145.570 as the remote base always on.

The temporary location will be in Bothell with the permanent location to be determined.

This is all in preparation for us losing our Shoreline location as the west end of the link.

Dennis (current location of west end of link) is getting ready to retire and

expects to be selling his house in the upcoming years.

So some changes are in the works. Will keep you all posted.

As of 8/9/2010 The 442.200 repeater is on the air with 145.570 linked in. It is at low elevation for testing .

As of 8/26/2010 The 442.200 repeater is on the air at the N7NEW QTH.

Because of the close proximity of the two 440 signals... I had to turn off the 445,425 radio.

Use of the 442.200 repeater should work for anyone in the Bothell area.

Set audio levels 8/30/2010 & put amp on 145.570

Later after full testing at the N7NEW QTH (low elevation), the repeater will be moved to

a 500' elevation hill here in the north Bothell area.

After this move 442.200 should cover north of Seattle area pretty darn solid !

At present 442.200 puts 50 watts to the ant

145.570 puts 100 watts to the ant.

"System ID comes from the repeater in Bothell in CW"

"WA7HJR/R" for 442.200 ID (R for repeater)

"N7JTA/L" for 145.570 ID (L for link)

Courtesy tones from repeater ...

"M" dah-dah for main, comes from the Repeater 442.200

"W" dit-dah-dah for west, comes from the Link radio 145.570

The 442.200 frequency is Coordinated to the Puget Sound RTTY Repeater Group.

"Club call WA7HJR"... Thus the WA7HJR/R call on the repeater..

Thanks to the WA7HJR group for the partnership with this repeater.

8/11/2010

Terry & Mike made a trip to Sky meadows to realign the 440 beams headed west. It seems with the poor weather we had on 10/13/09 we got the beam heading off to the north somewhat. The visibility was down to about 200' with the snow falling that day. Got the beams pointed in the right direction and hope this improves the path over the hump. "We will see"...

7/29/2010

Mike made a run over to Sky Meadows to do some spring cleaning at the site.

Shorten cables and label everything. Also swept the place out.

Noticed how far off we got the 440 beams last fall.

10/13/2009

Terry & Mike made an excursion over to rebuild the 440 antenna at Sky Meadows.

The old wooden dowel holding the antennas was getting pretty bad as was the wood holding it up.

We put up a piece of 3" schedule 80 conduit and remounted the KLM co-phased antennas.

Also trimmed the trees in front of the ant in the path headed west.

Seems to be working better... we will see.

It snowed on us most of the afternoon, but we "got er done".

Wednesday 5/6/09

Mike went over and picked up the ID Radio & brought it back to the west side.

When I hooked it up, it was dead. Checked it out and found the power plug was shot. The resistance in this connection was what started it squealing and eventually made it die. I hard wired it to the board and recorded my own voice for the ID. Noticed the 10 min timer kept resetting. Listened to it for a while and found something was getting into the rec. After shutting off almost everything in the house, I found my trunk scanner was the culprit. Seems to be working ok now.

Have Patti's voice on now!!!

Don Martin, 61, died December 27, 2007, after a short illness. Don was born on April 7, 1946 in Seattle, WA, the youngest of three brothers.
He graduated in 1964, from Sealth High School, where he excelled in sports, particularly football. He worked 38 years for the Seattle P-I and Seattle Times as a pressman, retiring in 2003. Retirement allowed him to relocate to his beloved Sky Meadows in Cle Elum, WA. Don was larger than life in every way. His appetite for stories, laughter, friends and good times was legendary. His passions were also big: ham radio (N7LXC), computers, cameras, tractors and anything with a motor. He was idolized by his nieces and nephews and could make friends anywhere.
Don leaves the love of his life and wife, Brenda Sudduth-Martin; daughter, Lauren Dealey; stepson, Free; brothers, Steve and Terry and their spouses and children; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ron and Faith Schaafsma, of Auburn, WA.
Friends and family will miss the "youngest, good-looking" Martin brother and tell Donald stories for years to come. (taken from the Herald)
