Seattle CWA Retiree Group Questionnaire

Dear Seattle Area CWA Retirees,

It's been a long, hot and busy summer to say the least. I hope that all of you have been able to enjoy the weather and do the things you love to do.

The Qwest contract negotiations are over. A tentative agreement has been recommended by the bargaining committee. Explanation meetings were held around the state. Answers given, more questions asked, more answers and yet there are even more questions.

Ratification ballots have been mailed out from Local 7800 and all the other locals across the district. If you know of an active member who has not received their ballot, please encourage them to call their local's office and get one sent out. Every vote does count, every member has a voice.

I will send out another e-mail in the next day or two that details the health care package as it was presented at the explanation meeting and then again on a retiree chapter presidents' conference call last week. To quote Reed Roberts, "Retirees will have to pay for their healthcare." Just how much depends upon whether or not the contract is ratified before the end of the year, your age and the ages of your dependents, how often you access the healthcare system and what your prescription drug needs are.

Listed below you will find a link to a survey that we will use to help write our organization's by-laws and work through some of the logistics of being a membership driven group. It's important that whatever we do benefits the majority of our members while always considering the individual's concerns and accommodations. I hope that you can find the time to answer the questions that will help shape when, where and how we meet and communicate with one another. Also, because we don't have e-mails for all our retirees, if you could forward this on to anyone you know who is a CWA retiree it will be greatly appreciated.

Our next meeting will be in November. Date, time and place to be announced based on the survey results. In the mean time, don't forget to support your favorite candidates in these elections. They can use your time and talent in reaching out to fellow retirees, friends, neighbors and members of our greater labor family. Phonebanks are available for Labor-Neighbor calls in the Seattle and Tacoma areas, as well as walks each Saturday to deliver information to labor families on the various candidates and initiatives. Go to www.wslc.org <HTTP: www.wslc.org>and click on the Labor-Neighbor icon to join in the fun!! Remember Congress, the State Legislature, the President and the Governor can change our contracts, our benefits, our way of life with the stroke of a pen. Please remember to vote.

So here's the link to the survey. Thank you in advance for filling it out!!
